A total of 10 Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested for poaching in Sri Lankan waters this morning (13).
The Sri Lanka Navy also took into custody the fishing vessel carrying the fishermen during the operation conducted off the coast of Delft Island.
The fishermen were arrested for engaging in fishing activities while violating Sri Lanka’s maritime boundaries and were subsequently taken to the Karainagar Naval Camp.
The arrested fishermen and the seized vessel are to be handed over to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, after which they are scheduled to be produced before court.
