Letters of appointment will be issued tomorrow (07) to 1,252 candidates recruited to Grade III of the Management Service Officers’ Service.
The appointment ceremony will be held at Temple Trees under the patronage of the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Professor Chandana Abayaratne, with the participation of Deputy Minister Ruwan Senarath.
According to the Ministry of Public Administration, nearly 85,000 candidates sat for the open competitive examination held on October 5, 2025. Successful candidates were selected on merit based on their examination results and interviews conducted on May 22, 23 and 24, 2026.
Although the minimum qualification required for recruitment is the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination, the Ministry said a considerable number of graduates were also among those selected. All successful candidates are between the ages of 18 and 29.
Of the 1,252 recruits, 1,006 were selected through the Sinhala medium, 217 through the Tamil medium and 29 through the English medium.
The Ministry noted that there are currently 1,615 vacancies in the Management Service Officers’ Service. As only 1,252 candidates met the required qualifications during the first recruitment round, the remaining vacancies will be filled through a second round of recruitment.
Minister Chandana Abayaratne said the suspension of public service recruitment since 2021 had resulted in a severe shortage of officers, creating difficulties in delivering public services.
The Ministry further stated that, in line with government policy, more than 35,000 individuals were recruited to the public service in 2025. Recruitment is currently underway to appoint more than 100,000 additional personnel this year, while further large-scale recruitment has also been planned for 2027.
