A 15-year-old boy tragically drowned in the Medaketiya Tank within the Gokarella Police Division on Wednesday, police confirmed.
The victim, a resident of Habarana, had been staying at a hostel affiliated with a private educational institute while following the Advanced Level programme.
According to police, he had visited the tank with a group of friends on Tuesday evening to collect lotus flowers when the incident occurred.
Gokarella Police have launched further investigations into the tragedy.
