Twenty new ambulances equipped with advanced medical technology have been donated to 20 government hospitals under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
Each ambulance, valued at Rs. 25.7 million, was provided under the Health Systems Improvement Project with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The initiative aims to strengthen emergency response services and ensure more effective patient care during transportation.
According to the Ministry of Health, the ambulances are equipped with modern facilities that enable certain treatments to be administered while en route to hospitals.
The beneficiary hospitals include the Teaching Hospitals of Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Badulla, and Anuradhapura; the District Hospitals of Embilipitiya, Nawalapitiya, Matale, Negombo, Trincomalee, Nuwara Eliya, Chilaw, Monaragala, Dambulla, and Horana; and the Base Hospitals of Pottuvil, Kantale, Akkarapattu, Dehiattakandiya, Ampara, and Sigiriya.
Speaking at the event, Minister Jayatissa said the government will continue to expand the ambulance fleet in phases, depending on requirements, with both state funds and foreign assistance.
