Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake said that the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah may be far more severe than initially expected.
He stated that the cyclone could represent the worst natural disaster the country has ever experienced, adding that the scale of destruction may even surpass the impact of the tsunami.
Ravi Karunanayake pointed out that 22 out of the country’s 25 districts were affected by Cyclone Ditwah, marking the first time that both the dry zone and the wet zone were impacted simultaneously.
He emphasized that the country can only be restored to normalcy through effective and well-coordinated disaster management measures.
