Sri Lanka Police have arrested a 26-year-old man following an investigation into a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows a cat being abused.
According to police, the suspect was taken into custody on February 8 after the footage triggered widespread public outrage and protests from animal welfare groups.
The suspect, a mechanic from Thibbatugoda, was produced before the Walapane Magistrate’s Court on the same day. The court ordered that he be remanded until February 24.
Police further stated that the court has directed that the suspect undergo a medical examination to assess his mental condition and submit a report.
