The Ministry of Health Sri Lanka has revealed that 83 percent of deaths in the country are caused by non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Director of the NCD Unit, Dr. Shreeni Alahapperuma, stated that one in three individuals in Sri Lanka suffers from heart-related conditions.
She also noted that 63.9 percent of those affected do not seek medical treatment.
In addition, around 15 percent of the population is living with diabetes, with nearly 49 percent of patients not receiving treatment.
Health authorities emphasized the urgent need for increased awareness, early detection, and regular medical care to reduce the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.
