Consumer Affairs Authority Cracks Down on Unethical Practices in Pettah Rice Market

Officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) conducted inspections today (11) at rice wholesale shops on Fifth Cross Street, Pettah, following complaints of unethical practices, including hoarding of rice stocks.

During the operation, legal action was taken against a shop found selling rice at inflated prices in violation of consumer protection laws.

The CAA also uncovered other violations, such as the failure to display price tags and the sale of expired rice. Further investigations are underway to address these issues and ensure compliance with consumer rights regulations.

This inspection is part of the CAA’s ongoing efforts to uphold fair trading practices and protect consumers.
