The Samagi Jana Balawega says it is considering bringing a motion of no confidence against Speaker Ashoka Ranwala if he fails to clarify the authenticity of his academic qualifications.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya Member of Parliament Ajith P. said that the Speaker should state whether he has properly obtained a doctorate. Perera said.
“If he cannot produce evidence and refuses to resign, we will move a no-confidence motion against him,” the MP said.
Samagi Jana Balawegaya also expressed confidence that the members of the National People’s Force, who believe that they will act by their conscience, will support the removal of the Speaker if a vote is held.
Controversy over speaker Ashoka Ranwala’s doctorate escalated after the parliamentary website removed the section ‘Dr’.
The government has not commented on this issue either.
In an inquiry made to the Cabinet Media Spokesman in this regard, he stated that the Speaker will make an immediate statement in this regard.
