CEB Connects Wagawatta Grid Substation to National Grid

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has successfully connected the newly constructed Wagawatta Grid Substation to Sri Lanka’s national grid. This facility, representing an investment of LKR 2,300 million, was funded by the Board of Investment (BOI) Sri Lanka to supply electricity to the Wagawatta and Millaniya industrial zones.

Situated on a five-acre plot provided by the BOI, the substation boasts a capacity of 90 MVA. This enhancement is expected to improve the reliability of electricity supply to existing industries and accommodate future industrial developments in the area.

The design, construction, and commissioning of the substation were executed by the Transmission Construction Projects (TCP) Branch of the CEB, utilizing the expertise of its own engineers, superintendents, and field staff. Notably, the Wagawatta project marks the first grid substation entirely completed by CEB’s in-house team.

This development underscores CEB’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure to meet the growing energy demands of Sri Lanka’s industrial sectors.
