62 Suspended CEB Employees Reinstated with Full Privileges

Sixty-two employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), suspended for participating in protests against the board’s privatization under the previous government, have been reinstated with all privileges.

The decision followed a special directive issued by the Minister of Energy, Kumara Jayakody.

The suspensions stemmed from protests launched by CEB trade unions last January, alleging moves toward privatization. The then Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, had instructed officials to suspend employees who neglected their duties during the protest, citing disruptions to consumers despite electricity being designated an essential service.

Under the new government, Minister Jayakody has revoked the disciplinary actions, ordered the reinstatement of the employees, and restored their privileges.

The employees met with Minister Jayakody yesterday (24) to discuss the decision.
