Floods Affect 80,000 Acres of Farmland, Compensation Process Underway

The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has reported that approximately 80,000 acres of farmland were damaged by the floods in November. Crop damage assessments have already been completed in the districts of Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Mannar, according to a statement by the Board.

Compensation payments will commence once the final reports from these districts are received.

Assessments in Batticaloa, Ampara, and Trincomalee are scheduled to conclude the day after tomorrow, while evaluations in Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, and Matale are expected to be completed by December 30.

The Board highlighted that the assessments are being conducted with the support of the Department of Agrarian Development and the involvement of agrarian organizations.

Farmers affected by the floods are urged to stay informed about updates regarding compensation and relief measures as the evaluation process nears completion.
