Sri Lanka Police Take Action Against 383 Drunk Drivers in Nationwide Traffic Operation

In a 24-hour operation that concluded at 6:00 a.m. today (Dec. 28), Sri Lanka Police apprehended 383 drunk drivers as part of an intensified effort to curb traffic accidents during the festive season.

The Police Media Division reported that a total of 8,392 drivers faced penalties for various traffic violations during the operation. These included 1,382 violations of traffic rules, 690 license-related offenses, 98 cases of speeding, and 59 incidents of reckless driving.

This special traffic initiative, launched on December 23 under the directives of the Acting Inspector General of Police, aims to improve road safety across the country. The campaign comes during the festive period, a time often associated with heightened traffic incidents.
