The government has announced plans to commence purchasing paddy from the third week of January, aiming to secure approximately 300,000 metric tonnes.
Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda confirmed that sufficient funds are available for this initiative, with allocations expected to be finalized soon.
He further stated that the procured paddy would be stored as part of the government’s reserves and will only be released to the market in case of a rice shortage.
This measure is part of the government’s efforts to ensure food security and stabilize rice supply.
