Sri Lanka capped off 2024 with its highest monthly tourist arrivals, recording 248,592 visitors in December. For the entire year, the country welcomed 2,053,465 tourists, marking a 38% increase compared to 2023.
According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), tourism earnings reached USD 3,168.6 million, a remarkable 53.2% growth from the previous year.
The 2024 figures are close to pre-pandemic and pre-Easter attack levels, with 2.3 million tourists recorded in 2018.
The upward trend continues into 2025, with 70,944 arrivals reported in just the first nine days of January, signaling strong momentum for the new year.
