The airline now operates flights to Colombo and Jaffna, two of Sri Lanka’s most prominent cities, from major Indian hubs including Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Sri Lanka has seen a notable increase in Indian tourists, with over 200,000 visiting in early 2024. IndiGo’s expanded operations have played a pivotal role in this surge, offering enhanced air connectivity that contributes significantly to Sri Lanka’s tourism revenue. The island nation’s appeal as a destination for leisure, business, and religious tourism continues to draw millions of Indian visitors annually.
IndiGo’s direct flights to Jaffna, a culturally significant region in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province, align with the country’s broader tourism and economic development goals. The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau praised IndiGo’s efforts, with its chairman emphasizing the airline’s role in promoting tourism and cultural exchange. “IndiGo’s increased frequency, including operations to Jaffna, demonstrates its dedication to the development of the Northern Province, enriching Sri Lanka’s tourism offerings,” he said.
