Colombo Port Clears Backlogged Containers, Plans Expansion to Meet Growing Demand

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation has announced the successful clearance of all previously backlogged containers at the Colombo Port.

Deputy Minister Ruwan Kodithuwakku stated that the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), in collaboration with Sri Lanka Customs and other relevant agencies, worked efficiently to resolve the issue.

A meeting is scheduled for today to review the progress of the clearance process, ensuring continued efficiency in operations.

With approximately 2,000 containers arriving daily, the government is implementing both short-term and long-term strategies to expand the port’s storage capacity to manage the increasing volume of shipments effectively.

This development marks a significant step in enhancing Colombo Port’s operational capabilities and maintaining its position as a regional maritime hub.
