The Department of Meteorology predicts that the rainy conditions will persist over the next 24 hours in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces.
- Cloudy skies are expected across most parts of the island.
- Showers or thundershowers are likely at times in the Northern, Eastern, North-central, Uva, and Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota district.
- Heavy showers, with rainfall up to 100 mm, are anticipated in parts of the Eastern and Uva provinces, and in the Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Polonnaruwa districts.
- Showers or thundershowers may also occur in several other areas.
In addition, fairly strong winds ranging between 30-40 kmph are expected in the Eastern slopes of the central hills, and across the Northern, North-central, Eastern, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.
The general public is urged to take adequate precautions to mitigate the risks of temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
