The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) marked a significant milestone today (January 21) as its key indices, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) and the S&P SL20, reached record highs in the history of Sri Lanka’s capital markets.
The ASPI surged by 224.01 points (1.37%), closing at an unprecedented 16,597.16 points, crossing the 16,500-point mark for the first time.
Similarly, the S&P SL20, representing the performance of the top 20 stocks, gained 94.71 points (1.91%), closing at a historic 5,056.74 points, breaching the 5,000-point mark for the first time ever.
Trading Highlights
The day’s trading activity witnessed a robust turnover exceeding Rs. 8.31 billion, with over 241 million shares changing hands, reflecting strong investor confidence and heightened market activity.
These record-breaking performances underscore the positive sentiment in the Sri Lankan stock market and its growing appeal among investors.
