Energy Minister Affirms CEB Will Remain State-Owned

Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody has reaffirmed that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and its subsidiaries will not be sold, emphasizing that they are vital national assets under full government ownership and control.

During an inspection visit to the Norochcholai Power Plant, the Minister stated that the government has always opposed privatization of the CEB and remains committed to maintaining national security and stability in the energy sector.

🔹 Private sector participation will be allowed in electricity generation, distribution, and maintenance, but the CEB will remain 100% state-owned, with no shares transferred to private entities.
🔹 Job security of CEB employees will be fully safeguarded.
🔹 Norochcholai Power Plant, which supplies nearly 40% of the country’s electricity, will undergo enhanced maintenance and operational improvements to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
