Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is prepared to vacate his official residence if the government formally notifies him, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam stated today (03).
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, Kariyawasam explained that the residence was officially allocated to Rajapaksa by the ‘Yahapalana’ (Good Governance) government, and any request for him to leave must be made through official channels.
He emphasized that Rajapaksa would leave immediately upon receiving formal notification, dismissing the need for public statements on the matter. Additionally, he stressed that the government must take responsibility for any security threats to Rajapaksa following his departure from the residence.
Kariyawasam also accused the government of attempting to pressure the former President through indirect statements, asserting that the SLPP would not allow such efforts to embarrass him.
