Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya has ordered the interdiction of four police officers, including the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Weeraketiya Police Station, following a court case concerning the alleged torture of a suspect in custody at Malimbada Police Station in Matara.

The interdicted officers also include the OIC of the Tangalle Crimes Division, the OIC of the Kamburupitiya Police Minor Offence Branch, and a Sergeant from the Mount Lavinia Police Station. They were granted bail by the Matara High Court, which ordered their release on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 each and two surety bonds of Rs. 5 million each. The case has been adjourned to February 27.

The officers face indictments filed by the Attorney General following an investigation by the Police Special Investigation Unit (SIU). The case involves the alleged arrest and six-day detention of a young man, Dilshan Madhusankha, who was reportedly tortured while in police custody.
