The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the signing of exchange papers between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of Japan, as well as an amended agreement between Sri Lanka and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as part of the country’s foreign debt restructuring process.
According to bilateral negotiations with Japan, Sri Lanka must finalize these agreements with JICA to complete its debt restructuring with the Japanese government. This follows the conclusion of debt restructuring discussions with Sri Lanka’s official creditor committee.
Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced at today’s (05) press conference that the Attorney General has granted consent for the necessary documents.
Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the proposal submitted by the President, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, to proceed with signing the agreements with Japan and JICA.
