A decision has been made to establish an Internal Affairs Unit in all government institutions to ensure the effective delivery of public services.
According to reports, a circular regarding this initiative has been issued by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The primary objective of these units is to prevent corruption, promote a culture of integrity within government institutions, enhance transparency and accountability, and uphold ethical governance. Additionally, the units will collaborate with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in enforcing anti-corruption laws.
The Secretary to the President has directed that the Internal Affairs Unit be established as a dedicated division within every government institution. Initially, these units will be set up in all Cabinet Ministries, Provincial Chief Secretary offices, and Divisional Secretariats.
Furthermore, the Secretary to the President has issued a written directive to Ministry Secretaries, Provincial Chief Secretaries, and District Secretaries, instructing them to implement the establishment of these units.
