GAMPAHA, Sri Lanka – February 22 – The Smart Gampaha Citizens HWPL New Village Movement Peace Walking Event took place on Saturday, bringing together community members, peace advocates, and representatives from various organizations in a united call for harmony and understanding.
Hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), a globally recognized non-governmental organization, the event aimed to foster peace at the grassroots level. Participants gathered at Saketha Reception Hall before embarking on a symbolic walk to the Gampaha Botanical Garden, reinforcing the importance of unity across national, cultural, and religious divides.
HWPL, which operates in 160 countries and holds Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), has long championed sustainable peace efforts. In collaboration with its partner organizations—the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) and the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG)—HWPL continues to drive global peace initiatives through education, forums, and community-driven programs.
Saturday’s walk served as a platform to promote social cohesion and emphasize the need for ongoing peace efforts. Participants expressed their commitment to advancing HWPL’s mission of ceasing hostilities and building a culture of peace in alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As the event concluded, organizers reaffirmed their dedication to expanding such initiatives to inspire long-term peace and cooperation. The movement’s success in Gampaha is expected to pave the way for similar activities across Sri Lanka and beyond.
