The Meteorology Department has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory warning of severe lightning in several provinces and districts.
Thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning are expected in parts of the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Monaragala district. Temporary localized strong winds may also occur during these storms.
Authorities urge the public to take necessary precautions, including:
✅ Seeking shelter indoors and avoiding trees.
✅ Steering clear of open areas like paddy fields, tea plantations, and water bodies.
✅ Refraining from using wired telephones and connected electrical appliances.
✅ Avoiding open vehicles such as bicycles, tractors, and boats.
✅ Staying alert for fallen trees and power lines.
