Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe has directed the police to investigate and conduct the necessary inquiries into the deaths of two suspects who were in police custody after being arrested in connection with the murder of a businessman in Kotahena.
The suspects allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and carried out the killing in Kotahena. Following their arrest, they were taken into custody for the recovery of hidden weapons. However, the police later claimed that the suspects were killed in self-defense during the operation.
Counsel representing the aggrieved party urged the court to probe the suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths. Taking these concerns into account, Magistrate Amarasinghe ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of death.
