Sri Lanka Arrests 875 Military Deserters in Nationwide Crackdown

In a major crackdown on military desertion, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence has announced the arrest of 875 individuals who unlawfully left the armed forces.

According to the Ministry, the arrests include:

  • 704 soldiers and 2 officers from the Army
  • 73 personnel from the Navy
  • 100 individuals from the Air Force

The operation, conducted jointly by the Military Police and regular police forces, aims to ensure deserters are brought to justice and uphold military discipline.
