MP Ravi Karunanayake has raised concerns that the government’s budget lacks clarity on how allocated funds will be utilized for various tasks.
Speaking in Parliament, he stressed the need for innovative revenue generation and efficient expense management, criticizing the budget’s approach.
Karunanayake pointed out that the government has projected expenditure of Rs. 8,835 billion with a budget deficit of Rs. 2,200 billion. He also noted that Rs. 1,315 billion has been earmarked for capital expenditure, which is essential for future economic growth. However, he questioned how the government plans to achieve its target of generating 15% of GDP as indicated.
He emphasized that instead of merely presenting figures, the government must focus on practical implementation to ensure economic stability.
