The Ministry of Health is set to enhance access to specialist medical services in rural hospitals, addressing long-standing disparities in healthcare availability.
Deputy Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijayamuni stated that specialist services have so far been limited to base hospitals and higher-grade facilities, restricting access for rural communities.
As part of a pilot project, six hospitals in the Kandy district will begin offering specialist services starting next month.
