Fierce Battle for Colombo Mayoral Seat as Elections Approach

The race for the Mayor of Colombo is heating up, with intense competition among all major political parties, according to former United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader and MP Ravi Karunanayake.

In an interview with CeylonWire.lk, Karunanayake noted that the ruling party is confident of replicating its past successes in the presidential and general elections in Colombo. However, he believes securing victory this time will be challenging, predicting an advantage for a united opposition.

Emphasizing the importance of a Sri Lankan identity over racial divisions in electoral politics, he highlighted that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has put forward a strong candidate for the mayoral race.

With the local government election fast approaching, the battle for Colombo’s leadership is expected to be one of the most closely contested in recent history.
