Islandwide Showers and Thundershowers Expected – Met Department Warns of Heavy Rainfall and Lightning Risks

The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers across most parts of the island during the afternoon or night today (April 6).

Morning showers are also expected in the coastal areas of the Western and Southern provinces, as well as in the districts of Puttalam, Mannar, Jaffna, and Ampara.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in certain areas of the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-Central, Southern, and Eastern provinces.

Misty conditions may prevail in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Northern, and North-Central provinces during the morning hours.

The public is kindly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize risks associated with temporarily strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, due to the apparent northward movement of the sun, it will be directly overhead Sri Lanka from April 5 to April 14.

Today (April 6), the sun will be directly above Kalutara, Kelinkanda, Kahawatta, Pokunutenna, and Mahawelatota at approximately 12:12 p.m.
