Sun to Pass Directly Over Sri Lanka; Showers and Thundershowers Expected in Several Areas

The Department of Meteorology has announced that due to the apparent northward movement of the sun, it will be directly overhead across various latitudes of Sri Lanka from April 5 to April 14 this year.

On April 10, the sun will be directly overhead around 12:11 p.m. in the following areas: Hatthikuchchi, Kalankuttiya, Halmillewa, Ipalogama, Palugaswewa, and Habarana.

Meanwhile, showers are expected at times in the Western and Southern provinces, as well as in the Puttalam district.

Showers or thundershowers may also occur in several areas of the Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, along with the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Polonnaruwa districts, particularly in the afternoon or night. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in some locations.

Misty conditions can be expected during the morning in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces.

The public is kindly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
