Showers and Thundershowers Expected in Several Provinces Today – Met. Department

The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers in several areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night today (12).

Additionally, several spells of showers are expected in the Western and Southern provinces.

The Department also warns of fairly strong winds ranging from 30-40 kmph, particularly over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The public is kindly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, due to the apparent northward relative motion of the sun, it will be directly overhead Sri Lanka from April 5 to 14. Today (12), the sun will be directly over Adiyakulam, Veppankulam, Padawiya, and Kuchchaveli at around 12:11 p.m.
