The Police Department has announced the implementation of a special security and traffic management program in areas where large public gatherings are expected during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring safety and order during a variety of New Year events, including festivals, musical shows, and carnivals.
As part of this program, 6,000 police officers have been deployed in key areas such as Colombo Fort, Pettah, Borella, Kirulapone, and Bambalapitiya, as well as at prominent religious sites.
Overall, more than 35,000 police officers have been stationed across the island to provide security and manage traffic throughout the festive season, the Police said.
