The Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for residents in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Western, Southern, and Eastern provinces, as well as the Ratnapura and Monaragala districts.
According to the Met Department, the heat index — which reflects the temperature felt by the human body — is expected to reach the ‘Caution Level’ in several areas tomorrow.
“The Heat Index Forecast is calculated using relative humidity and maximum temperature. This represents the actual conditions felt on the body,” the Department said in an official statement.
Health risks associated with high heat index levels include fatigue due to prolonged sun exposure and outdoor activity, with continued exertion potentially leading to heat cramps, the advisory warned.
As a precaution, the public is urged to stay well hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities, particularly during peak daytime hours.
