The Online Safety Act No. 9 of 2024 Repeal Bill has been officially gazetted.
According to the gazette notification, the passage of this bill will repeal the Online Safety Act No. 9 of 2024. It further states that all related regulations, if any, will also be annulled.
The notification clarifies that in the event of any inconsistency between the Sinhala and Tamil language texts of the bill, the Sinhala version shall prevail.
It also notes that the bill was introduced by Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake.
The Online Safety Act was passed by a majority vote in Parliament on January 24, 2024.
