The Department of Meteorology has warned that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in several places across the Eastern, Uva, Central, and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota, Mannar, and Vavuniya districts.
The Department also cautioned about the possibility of temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by lightning activity.
The Met Department urged people to seek shelter indoors during thunderstorms and to avoid open areas such as paddy fields, tea plantations, and open water bodies.
Additionally, the public has been advised not to use wired telephones or connected electric appliances during thunderstorms.
