This election will appoint 8,287 members to 339 local government bodies across the country.
A total of 13,759 polling centers have been set up islandwide to facilitate the voting process.
There are 17,156,338 eligible voters for this election.
A total of 75,589 candidates are contesting, representing 49 recognized political parties and 257 independent groups.
