Sri Lanka Police have implemented a special traffic plan in Colombo in conjunction with the Vesak festival, as large crowds are expected to visit the city to witness Vesak celebrations.
The traffic plan will be enforced in and around areas where Vesak zones have been established.
According to police, residents living along roads within Vesak zones, as well as vehicles heading to hospitals and other essential services, will be granted access as appropriate.
However, container trucks and tipper trucks transporting gravel and sand will not be allowed to enter these areas during the operational hours of the Vesak zones.
Police further stated that all roads will be reopened for two-way traffic once congestion has eased.
In addition, a special security plan has been put in place to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees visiting Vesak zones throughout the festival period.
