An ‘Amber’ level advisory has been issued for heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours in parts of the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.
The alert covers the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Kandy districts.
The Department stated that south-west monsoon conditions are gradually establishing over Sri Lanka, leading to enhanced showery weather in southwestern regions today (May 18) and in the coming days.
As a result, heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in isolated areas within the affected provinces and districts.
The public is advised to exercise caution and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
