SJB Faces Internal Rift as Multiple Electoral Organisers Resign Over Local Government Appointments

Several electoral organisers of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have resigned from their positions, citing dissatisfaction over the party leadership’s decisions regarding appointments to local government bodies.

The organisers claim they stepped down after the party hierarchy refused to appoint local government members they had recommended. The growing internal dispute has led to a wave of resignations, with the following key figures stepping down:

  • MP Chaminda Wijesiri – Bandarawela Electoral Organiser

  • Anura Buddhika – Horowpothana Electoral Organiser

  • Champaka Wijeratne – Dambulla Electoral Organiser

  • Ranjith Aluwihare – Rattota Electoral Organiser and Deputy National Organiser

  • Asoka Sepala Anagipura – Nuwara Eliya District Co-Organiser

  • Bandula Lal Bandarigoda – Galle Electoral Organiser

The resignation letters have been submitted to SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa and General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara.

According to party sources, several other organisers are also under mounting pressure and may soon make decisions regarding their positions due to dissatisfaction with the leadership’s choices.

Responding to the situation, General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara asserted that all party members are expected to adhere to party regulations when it comes to appointments and internal conduct.
