Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, claims that apart from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and a few close associates, there is no real party mechanism within the National People’s Power (NPP).
Speaking to CeylonWire, Karunanayake said there is a significant gap between the vision the NPP once promoted and its current actions.
“People initially saw the NPP as a force capable of turning promises into reality,” he noted. “But the joy and enthusiasm that existed while in the opposition have vanished after coming to power.”
According to Karunanayake, the lack of internal unity and structure is a major weakness of the party.
He also emphasized that there is no cohesive group within the NPP capable of implementing a true, transformative vision.
