900,000 Families in Sri Lanka Are Homeless – Ravi Urges Action on Housing Crisis

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Member of Parliament Ravi Karunanayake has revealed that approximately 900,000 families in Sri Lanka are currently facing severe housing issues.

Speaking to the media, Karunanayake emphasized that addressing the housing needs of the people was once a key priority for past United National Party leaders. He expressed concern that this critical issue has not received the necessary attention in recent years.

The MP stated that he has already submitted a personal proposal to the government aimed at resolving the current housing crisis. He further noted that the government has given a positive initial response to his suggestions.

However, Karunanayake stressed that the matter should not remain confined to discussions and political rhetoric. “This issue needs real, tangible action—not just talk,” he said, urging the authorities to take concrete steps to provide housing for the nearly one million affected families.
