The Department of Meteorology has announced that the prevailing active southwest monsoon is expected to bring enhanced showery conditions over the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Kandy districts over the next few days.
Showers or thundershowers are likely at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, and in Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts.
The Department further stated that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely in some areas within these regions.
Elsewhere, a few isolated showers may occur.
In addition, strong winds of 40–50 km/h can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
