Former Deputy Leader of the United International Party and Member of Parliament, Ravi Karunanayake, says that the new tax policies introduced under the Trump administration have created global controversy.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake emphasized that U.S. President Donald Trump, a businessman by background, governs the country with the mindset of a businessman.
“He thinks about America first and makes decisions based solely on his own policies, regardless of their global impact,” the MP noted.
He added that historically, the United States has played the role of a global policeman. However, under Trump’s leadership, that role has shifted.
“The U.S. has transitioned from being the world’s policeman to becoming a domestic businessman,” Karunanayake observed.
He stressed that if Sri Lanka intends to continue its business relations with the U.S., it must adapt to this new approach and align its strategies accordingly.
