Colombo, Sri Lanka – June 16, 2025 – Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has announced that the government will take steps to strengthen quality control systems across all blood banks in the country.
He made this statement during the national celebration of World Blood Donor Day, held at Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Minister Jayatissa emphasized the importance of ensuring high standards in blood safety and transfusion services, stating that new measures will be introduced to establish internationally recognized standards to further improve the country’s blood transfusion system.
In her address, Prime Minister Amarasuriya highlighted the government’s intention to reintroduce a nationwide program that allocates one day annually for blood donation within all state institutions, encouraging wider participation and promoting voluntary blood donation across the public sector.
The event brought together health officials, voluntary donors, and stakeholders to honor the contributions of blood donors and reaffirm the government’s commitment to a safe and sustainable blood supply.
