The Department of Meteorology has forecast several spells of showers today (June 20) in parts of the island, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the districts of Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in isolated areas of the Uva Province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night.
The Met Department also warned of fairly strong winds, reaching 30–40 km/h at times, over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-central, Southern, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee District.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions against potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
