Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has emphasized that collaborating with economically advancing India presents a valuable opportunity for Sri Lanka.
Speaking in an interview with ceylonwire.lk, Karunanayake noted that India has now surpassed Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy, highlighting its remarkable economic growth in recent years.
He reminded that Sri Lanka is already bound by a contractual trade arrangement with India, and stressed that the time has come to make full use of this agreement.
“What we need to do now is to maximize the benefits of this partnership,” he said, adding that Sri Lanka should focus on increasing its exports through this existing framework.
Karunanayake reiterated that closer economic cooperation with India could offer significant advantages for Sri Lanka’s development and global market integration.
