The recruitment of 5,000 new police personnel will be carried out promptly to address the current shortfall in the Police Department, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala announced in Parliament.
He stated that a gazette notification has already been issued, and applications for the positions are currently being accepted.
According to the Minister, the Police Department is currently facing a shortage of approximately 28,000 personnel.
In addition to recruitment efforts, Minister Wijepala revealed that a decision has been made to promote 5,000 police officers, including around 1,500 officers in higher grades.
